ABOUT THE PROJECT

Marvel Universe Online Project is a Pitch Deck for a Massive, Multiplayer, Open-world Action RPG video game based in the Marvel Universe. Originated by Mike Davenport and supported by the integration of up-and-coming comic, concept, and graphic artists.

The Marvel Universe Online Project is focused on developing a "Proof-of-Concept" for eventual presentation to Marvel Games for consideration and as a platform to garner support within the comic and gaming communities. A professionally designed deck is a top priority!

The project is constantly evolving and is funded through personal resources as well as a Patreon campaign that is used to compensate the many talented people who lend their support to the project. Our strength comes from their skill!

Ultimately, the Marvel Universe Online Project is a labor of love, for fans, by fans and, although there are no guarantees, it has the potential to lead to one of the greatest video games ever conceived!

New York Times bestselling author John Jackson Miller has spent a lifetime immersed in science fiction and comics, both as a fan and as a creator. After working in fanzines, he joined Don and Maggie Thompson at Comics Buyer’s Guide where he also edited Comics & Games Retailer magazine, Scrye magazine, and the Standard Catalog of Comic Books series. Miller moved into professional comics writing in 2003 with Crimson Dynamo for Marvel, which led to a year of writing Iron Man. That led to a long association with Lucasfilm including novels, comics, and games. His Star Wars novels include the Scribe Award-winning Kenobi as well as A New Dawn, Knight Errant, and Lost Tribe of the Sith. He wrote comics for the latter two — and he wrote the entire Knights of the Old Republic comics series (available from Marvel as Legends: The Old Republic). He also wrote the comics adaptation of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Star Trek novels followed, including Picard: Rogue Elements and Discovery – Die Standing (both Scribe Award winners), Discovery – The Enterprise War, the Prey trilogy, and Takedown. For 2023, Miller has written the first novel for the Strange New Worlds series: The High Country releases on Feb. 21 in hardcover, audiobook, and ebook.

He has also written comics and prose for properties including Halo, The Lion King, The Simpsons, Conan, Planet of the Apes, and Mass Effect. His Battlestar Galactica: Counterstrike graphic novel won the 2020 Dragon Award. His next comics project is Skull and Bones: Savage Storm, based on the upcoming Ubisoft game.

Ever since 2008 when he was deployed to Iraq, Danny Quick has been writing superhero stories and learning how to craft wonderful tales through the process of making comic books. He has a beautiful wife named Teyona and 4 wonderful children who also have characters in his little comic book universe.

Michael E. Uslan is the Originator and Executive Producer of the Batman movie franchise, spanning from 1989’s BATMAN to 2022’s THE BATMAN, including THE JOKER, the DARK KNIGHT trilogy, and the Justice League series. His work has been awarded Oscar, Emmy, People’s Choice, and Annie Awards. He was the first instructor to teach an accredited course on comic book folklore at any university and continues to teach as a Professor of Practice at Indiana University Media School. He is also the author of The Boy Who Loved Batman (IUP, 2019), which will become a Broadway play in Fall, 2022 with the Nederlander Organization. For Genius Brands, Michael oversees The Stan Lee Universe and the legacy of characters created by Stan post-Marvel. He was appointed to Joe Biden’s task force of entertainment industry executives regarding gun violence and movies/television and has served as a judge for the Asian Film Awards (Asia’s Oscars). He has also served on boards for Discovery Channel Global Education Partnership; the Association of Film Commissioners International; Wild Brain Animation Studio; Center for Excellence in Education; Youth Grants Panel, National Endowment for the Humanities; New Jersey Film Commission; Thomas Edison/Black Maria Film Festival; and Asbury Park Music & Film Festival.

Recently, the McMinn County school board in Tennessee decided to ban the classroom use of the graphic novel Maus, which depicts a firsthand account of the Holocaust via anthropomorphic animals. The decision was met with criticism across the United States and has been the subject of extensive news coverage, as well as social media mentions. It has also led to a surge of the book back to the top of numerous best seller lists and even selling out on Amazon. In this episode of the The Captioned Life Podcast, Sean and Kevin talk with educator Jill Gerber, and the Coalition Coordinator for Banned Books Week at the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund, Betsy Gomez, to discuss the controversy and its impact on teachers, students, parents, and beyond. This is a timely conversation about the relevance of graphic novels as educational literature and the alarming trend of banning non-traditional texts from school libraries and curriculum.

Jill Gerber is an award-winning K-12 educator of twenty years and longtime advocate of graphic literature in the curriculum to reach all learners. In addition to presenting workshops on the integration of comics in the classroom, she cowrites about innovative viewpoints on comics and KidLit in education on the blog, Perceptive Gaze. She teaches at Rowland Hall in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Betsy Gomez is the Banned Books Week Coalition coordinator and former editorial director for the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund, a nonprofit organization dedicated to defending the First Amendment rights of the comics community. Gomez manages resources, programming, and editorial content for bannedbooksweek.org and advises CBLDF on educational and free expression matters. Gomez is the editor of CBLDF’s book about the women who changed free expression in comics, CBLDF Presents: She Changed Comics. With an extensive background in educational publishing, Gomez has worked as a content developer and editor for several companies, including Houghton Mifflin Harcourt and Pearson Education, among others. Gomez’s work combines her love of comics with her passion for education and the right to read.
